WE CELEBRATE the new year a little differently in the Church. For one thing, it is celebrated on the First Sunday of Advent instead of the first of January, and it is a subdued affair instead of the raucous holiday in Times Square. Like the secular version, however, it is always a time of looking ahead. We look forward to the day when the phrase "thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" is not just wishful thinking, when justice and peace flow from God's mercy throuhout all of God's creation. We invite you to prepare for the Second Advent as we prepare to commemorate the First, not only remembering the babe in the manger but the one who will judge us all. We invite you to celebrate the birth of Jesus in this holy season and we invite you to remember those especially who have not fared as well as we have. A blessed Advent and a very Merry Christmas to you all.
